In honor of 2001's 50th Birthday, please scroll to the bottom of the page and leave a comment about your first time seeing 2001: A Space Odyssey
We all have our "first-time" stories. Sometimes the first-time isn't the best time. Sometimes the first-time is really the third time, or five ten twenty years later time.
What do you remember about seeing this movie. How did it strike you when you saw it. Was your first time a sleeper? Did you take the ultimate trip? Who'd you go with? Where were you?
April 3, 1968 ....or wait...April 2, 1968.
What day should we call the birthday of the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey? When did it begin? About four years in the making, when did it become an IT? When is the beginning? For most of us, the beginning is when we saw it for the first time. Let's say the date upon which it was released to the world is it's birthday (and if you saw it after that date, you were simply a little late to the party).
It premiered at the Uptown Theatre in Washington D.C. on April 2. Then, Kubrick cut 19 minutes out of the film before the next day's release on April 3 at the Capitol Theatre on Broadway in New York City.
