ACTIVISM!

This lesson on activism was designed for an 8th grade social studies class to take place over the week of April 23- 30, the same date as the Columbia University protests in 1968. In order to consider the importance of activism in a democratic society, students are asked to consider their own opinion and how best to get their message across. The Columbia protest is an example of how activism can sometimes be ineffective through miscommunication and bad listening. Therefore, this lesson specifically focuses on clear messaging through a protest poster project.
